"2 out of 2 broke" 2010-01-18
By Burl P. Bolle
The first unit ordered failed within one month but luckily Amazon fixed that problem for me and sent another. The one they sent worked for 1yr and now it had a melt down. Found a loose wire on a sensor causing a lot of heat and burned the unit up. This wire was supposed to be tightened at the manufacturer and not part of the install. Also you might want to consider getting a unit with a temperature regulator because water comes out at largly different temperatures from the summer to the winter based on underground water temperature.

"LOVE IT..." 2009-03-25
By M. Esaili (Yorktown, NY)
This product is perfect for homes where the space is an issue or for locations distant from heating source. The first heater we received and installed was mulfunctioning. After discussing the troubleshooting with BOSH, Amazon the same day we contacted them sent us new replacement. Returning the first heater could be easier. Thank you Amazon.com! My electric panel was just some year new, we did not have to provide any additional works besides wiring the heater. I saved all closet space(where I had located 30gal. el water heater) for other use. Heater is very small, it would easily fit under the sink. Temperature of hot water can be adjusted to your needs. 2 gallons of hot water per minute are good enough. According to professional installer, the heater is so simple device, that it should not have any additional problems. I am very happy with the product and am starting considering this type of hot water heater for whole house, no matter price for electrical works. Where the space is an issue, this product is one of great solutions. I am highly recomanding this heater.

Stiebel Eltron Tempra 12 Electric Tankless Water Heater

Product By Stiebel Eltron
Lowest Price : $435.00
Product Description
Stiebel Eltron Tempra 12 Electric Tankless Water HeaterUnlimited supply of hot water: The Tempra; continually heats water instantaneously as you require it - and only when you require it. The Tempra; unit completely replaces a conventional tank heater with no disruption to your comfort and hot water needs.Save energy and reduce your electric bill: Electric tank type water heaters are subject to stand-by losses which amount to 15 - 20% of the kWH used. In addition, water in a tank has to be heated hotter than necessary to account for these stand-by losses. Changing to a tankless system like the Tempra; eliminates these problems and results in typical savings of at least 15 - 20% on the heating portion of your electric bill.Sleek design saves space: The Tempra; takes up considerably less space than conventional tank type water heaters and saves valuable living space.Control temperature simply by setting a dial: Set the knob on the front cover and enjoy water temperatures between 86;F (30;C) and 125;F (52;C). Change the desired temperature at anytime. Advanced microprocessor technology ensures that the water temperature never deviates from the set point.Better than gas: The Tempra; has several advantages over a gas-type tankless water heater. Compared to many similar gas tankless models the Tempra; is less expensive to purchase. Installation is also much simpler and cheaper since it is not necessary to vent a Tempra; to the outside. The venting that a gas unit requires causes anywhere from a 10 - 20% efficiency reduction from heat escaping out the exhaust pipe. Furthermore, for every cubic foot of gas burned, two cubic feet of air have to be mixed in to create ideal combustion. In a cold climate, this hurts efficiency further. When a gas unit fires, it draws in air around it, heats the water, and then expels warm exhaust outside.

"Almost burned the house down" 2010-07-08
By Mike (USA)
I have (had) a Steibel Eltron Tempra 36. I installed it 2 years ago. It was correctly wired w/ 3 60-amp circuits, 6ga wire with ground. Today, one of the circuit boards caught on fire. It was only by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ himself that it happened when my girl was in the basement putting laundy in the dryer. I kid you not. The unit literally went POP and ignited when she was standing next to it, while the unit was not in use (no hot water being generated by the unit). As flames were shooting out of the unit, she was able to get a fire extinguisher and put the fire out by completely drenching the unit. Steibel-Eltron will warrantee the unit, but frankly I'm hesitant to install such a unit again. If my girl wasn't home today, I would have come home today to no home whatsoever. Unfortunately, I do not have NG available, as I live in the boonies. I may switch to a Bosch AE125 instead.

We are on our second Tempra 36. Not because we had a problem with the first one, but because we had one in our house in Virginia and when we moved to Oklahoma and built a new house, it was the first thing we purchased. We have never had any problem with this tankless and recommend it to everyone we know. With four children, countless showers and loads of laundry, it has never let us down. "DO NOT BUY" 2009-10-22

I am now on my second one (first one died and had to be un-installed and sent back all at my expense) of these which is now not working!!! They don't have repair staff to come out and fix them either, they just assume you have a collection of tools and hours of time to try to trouble shoot the piece of junk. Mine was installed by licensed plumbers and electricians so not an installation problem. Buy another brand!

"A SIMPLE, GREEN WAY TO HEAT WATER FOR MY ENTIRE HOME!" 2009-05-12
By S. A. Brown (Chesapeake, VA, USA)
In remodeling my kitchen I found I needed to move my refrigerator to where my 50 gallon water heater sat, so I decided to go tankless. I bought the Stiebel Eltron Tempra 36 from AMAZON (Compact Appliance) for a little over $700.00 (Great Price!), upgraded my home to 400 AMP service, mounted the Tempra 36 to a wall in my washroom, removed my existing water heater, plumbed all hot & cold water lines to/from the Tempra 36, ran three 35 foot lengths of 6 gauge wire (X2 hot + ground) from the Tempra 36 to my new breaker panel and connected with three 60 AMP two pole breakers. I fired the beast up after ensuring I had no leaks and lo and behold, NEARLY SCALDING HOT WATER!! ONLY WHEN I WANT IT!! I am a 100% do-it-your-selfer and believe me, this tankless water heater was simple to install and connect. IT SHOULD PAY FOR ITSELF WITHIN ONE YEAR'S TIME!! I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT!!

"Great little heater" 2010-09-13
By Hammer
I had my RV water heater spring a leak and found that it would cost me over $500 to replace it. I very seldom used the propane part of the heater so started looking for a suitable replacement. Using the Internet I researched various possibilities and selected this item. I had to do a little adjustments to the area but it finally fit where the original was. Works great.

"affordable hot water" 2010-08-21
By Eugene
We bought this unit for Dog Grooming. The two weeks that we used it so far it works great, only had one time that we ran out of hot water and not sure why. Like everything you buy, if you think about what your needs are and do your purchases according to that in most cases you will be happy with the item you bought. And we are happy with the Ariston 6+.

Bought a place that had no hot water to one bathroom on the far end of the house, and needed something quick and easy so the kids could have warm showers. Looked everywhere, and this Ariston 6 gal turned out to be the best bet. It's just enough heat, without running new power lines or new plumbing. (Probably not great for cold weather climate showers or long soaks, though.) Was easy to install and it's been about a month with no problems so far.

"Ariston Water Heater" 2010-01-30
By Johnny R. Hopper (Pioneer, CA)
I ordered the Ariston 6 as a replacement for my 5th wheel water heater. It is limited to electric only but the price differential between the original propane water heater and the Ariston was my deciding factor. I have another Ariston that is smaller and is used just for my washing machine that has worked for several years with no problems so the choice for replacing the original propane heater or choosing another route was an easy one. Since Installing the Ariston 6+ I have more hot water for a longer time than I have ever had with the original water heater. I have a generator or an electrical hook up at all times so there is no negative effect on making the choice. I would recommend Ariston product to anyone and to those with RV products who need to replace an original propane water heater....go for it. I regret that I did not make the transfer sooner.

"Love it!!!" 2009-09-10
By J. Heuser (Farmington, New Mexico USA)
We live in a small trailer, and this is just the thing for us. Before we had a water heater that only held 15 Gallons. That makes for 1 load of dishes, or one 10 minute hot shower. You can imagine my delight to have endless hot water. The only downfall we found is that we had to replace the breaker to the trailer because if we ran anything with the tankless, it would flip the breaker because our previous one was too small. But no big deal, and we're still lovin it!!!!!

This is the 2nd Stiebel tankless hot water heater I have purchased. The first was for my home and the 2nd for my carriage house. Before buying Stiebel hot water heaters, I purchased a different brand -- AND had a terrible experience. Stiebel is definitely the way to go if you need an electric tankless hot water heater. And I've had no problems with the Distributor. During the 1st purchase, the sales person on the phone was very friendly and helpful. The second purchase was facilitated online and delivered on time...

"Worth buying!!!" 2010-08-22
By Donnie Anderson
For those who don't know, Stiebel Eltron make the best electric tankless heaters on the market. They have the digital thermostat, and it will keep your water to the exact temperature you set regardless of demand. I set mine to 106'F and it is exactly 106'F, regardless of if I have just 1 tap open or 5 plus a shower, dishwasher, etc... As for installation it was fairly basic. Just an in and out for the plumbing and the electrical was fairly straightforward. You need 3 x 60A 208-204V lines plus a ground. That means 6 spaces in your breaker panel. This is the biggest electric tankless that can go on a 200A service. Anything larger and you need a 400A service. I am a licensed electrician so instalation was simple for me. Otherwise I would definitely hire an electrician to do the hookup. It can be intimidating to do the electical yourself with all the options. Do you use flex, tech cable, just plain old lumex, etc... I piped mine in using EMT and #6 wire, although you only need #8. Construction quality is top notch. The manual is excellent. And it works like a charm. It is capable of giving 140'F scalding water just like a regular storage tank. But I set mine to 106'F; the temperature I want for taking a shower. I just turn the hot water faucet on and I get the exact tempature I want. No need to play with the cold water to get the temperature I want. No more fluctuations in temperature when a toilet, washer, or dishwasher kicks in while taking a shower. No need to have expensive mixing valves or temperature regulators. Also you eliminate the need of draining your storage tank every year or 2 and cleaning it out, replacing annode rods, or just waiting for it to leak and flood your basement after 10 years so you can replace it or call the power company to have a replacement rental installed. I have a water softener as well so there should be no maintenance issues with the tankless. I am expecting a 30+year life cycle. I figure the cost of a good 12year storage water heater is around $500-600. This tankless water heater was [...]. But it will last 30 years as opposed to 15 years with a storage tank so it actually cvomes out to [...] for 2 storage tanks as opposed to [...] for the tankless. I save [...] in the long run. I also don't need temperature regulators or expensive faucets on my shower so I save money there. The tankless is also more efficient so I save a little bit again there. It all adds up. Also the maintenance of a hot water storage tank is a pain. And the risk of it leaking and flooding unless you replace it every 10 years even if it still works. Also it's no good to cook with hot water from a storage tank because of all the built up gook and grime and deposits in the tank that are in the water. Now I have pure water straight form the source, not water that has been sitting with deposits in a tank. For the price this is the best electric water heater on the market. It is way cheaper than going solar which costs over [...]. But if you decide to upgrade and go solar, a tankless is a perfect compliment to bring your solar heater water up to the final temperature if required. So a tankless is not a wasted purchase if you decide to add a solar heater down the road.
Definitely 5 stars.

"Get the Siebel-Eltron; don't waste your time with other brands." 2010-08-04
By C. Labuda (Oxford, MS USA)
I had to replace my two-year old American Heat tankless because the temperature fluctuations were so large that you had to pay attention so that you didn't get burned. Additionally, the American Heat took as much as 5 minutes to generate hot water. The Siebel-Eltron controls water temperature very precisely and heats up quickly, usually in less than a minute. Let's face it, tankless hasn't really caught on yet in the US whereas in Europe tankless heaters are used quite widely, so they know how to make these. Stiebel-Eltron is top of the line.

"Its FABULOUS!... with a couple of caveats." 2009-10-18
By Jon L. Sharp (Texas, USA)
I am very happy with this purchase. Mounting the Tempra 29 Plus and the required new electrical box in the closet was as easy as 8 screws. Wiring it all up was a little more work. The plumbing is simple if you put it where your tank was. And losing our old 50 gallon tank gave us some new closet room for the house! The product itself is absolutely fabulous and is only about 4-5 inches deep and maybe 15"x15"ish. It looks very well made. (Those Germans always make good stuff!) Once installed, your water will easily get hotter than you can stand and I felt no fluctuation in the shower when the washing machine and a sink were also running hot. The ONLY negatives I see are 1)the dedicated line requirements and 2)a couple of our fluorescent fixtures flicker/strobe slightly when hot water is running. I feel like that might simply be due to cheap bulbs or something because the "flicker" is isolated to just two fixtures in the whole house. Bottom line: Buy it. Just be prepared for a little extra cash to go to a new electrical box, 3x50amp breakers and some 8ga wire. But in the end, you'll be happy, you water will be hot, and you won't be heating 50 gallons of water all day long for nothing any more. I can't wait for the next electric bill to see what my Tempra 29 Plus is saving me! Seller's note: A minimum 200 AMP household electrical service is highly recommended and will likely be required to install this model. If you are unsure of your electrical capacity in your home, please consult your electrician before ordering.

"14 Degrees Short" 2010-02-22
By Dan (Michigan)
I tested the AE-9.5. If it worked as advertised, it would be a great little piece of equipment - but it doesn't. It is advertised to achieve an 84 degree rise at .75 gallons per minute. The best that I could do after ten tests was a 70 degree rise. Here are my test results.
Incoming water - 48 degrees
Gallons per minute - .75 GPM
Heated Water Temp - 118 degrees
I did hit 125 degrees or 77 degrees once but not for .75 gallons per minute. For my test, I set the AE-9.5 on a table about 30 inches off the floor. I wired the unit to 240 volts. Actual voltage, 242. The heated water was directed into a two gallon pail using a two foot section of hose. The distance from the unit to the pail was minimized so as not to affect the results. I used a sealed thermometer to measure the water temp. Each test ran for two minutes. I called the Bosch support line for help but it was after hours and they weren't able to answer my questions.

"Dangerous -- No warranty service" 2010-02-06
By Donald T. Kinstler (Bailey, NC USA)
Less than 2 months after installation, this unit will not turn off. It has burst PEX tubing three times due to the overheat condition, and started to smoke and sizzle multiple times. It will *not* turn off even with both in and out water valves closed, and we have to flip the breakers to render it safe. That of course means no hot water -- kind of why we bought the unit to start with. The company is using every excuse in the book to not honor the warranty. They want me to a) hire a technician (at my expense) to troubleshoot the item on site, b) install copper tubing (also at my expense - despite being reminded water hot enough to melt PEX is too hot for skin), c) move the setting to low (meaning lukewarm water), and send them a $100 deposit which upon return of the defective unit, at their discretion, they might refund "if the unit does in fact requires warranty service". An honorable company would send a new unit and an RMA for the defective one, not seek to place blame (however illogical) on the purchaser. Nor should I be required to do field repairs on the pressure switch (or pay a pro) on a $200 item. I am being given the run-around, talking to person after person, and the company is using every possible excuse to wiggle out of honoring their warranty. The unit is unsafe at this point, and represents a fire, flooding, and/or serious scalding risk. A new unit may or may not have these risks, but I can't be sure BECAUSE THE COMPANY WON'T SEND ME ANOTHER ONE despite the unit being only 2 months old and their "troubleshooting" requires *ME* to spend more on technicians than the original purchase price of the unit.

"Not so good" 2009-03-27
By G. M. Seeger (Columbiana, Oh. United States)
Made only luke warm water at my utility sink 3 foot away. I called and I was told that it was because I had 208 volts. Well, the unit is 240 or 208. Why don't they say it will not work on 208? Would it really work on 240 volt? Not sure, but I dought it would make hot water at all. I'm a electrician (20 years) so I know it was installed properly. I would never buy another one. They would not refund at all. Get a 2,4,6 or 8 gallon tank instead. My 6 gallon works great at the utility sink. Hot water right now. I put a timer on it when I need it the most. Daytime only.

"Overall great product" 2009-02-09
By Flashlight fan (Redding, CA United States)
This heater works as advertised! The adjustments for temperature and the 220v hookup should be done by someone comfortable with these tasks - the instructions are not as clear as they could be. The indicator light is very helpful it adjusting the flow as it indicates when the unit is on (there is a click also).

I would recommend this water heater for light use. I replaced my water heater in an RV with this and it works great for this use. Dont know if it would handle larger use requirements. Easy to install.

"Great Little Heater" 2010-08-20
By Dwight Dulsky (Perkasie, PA United States)
I needed a new small hot water heater to replace a 6 gallon one that had failed 2 x's previously. The Ariston was a great choice. Very nicely designed, super easy to hook up. The initial hot water setting was a bit low, so I upped it to max and it really delivers just the right amount I need at a nice hot temp. The unit recovers quickly.

"Not for a beginner!" 2010-07-27
By Elke Sartor (Brownsville, TX, US)
The 4 gal Artiston was shipped without a manual, so I had this water-heater installed by a pro-plumber and had to pay for his time, of course. It turned on - but never supplied hot or even warm water. Now I have to send it back - what a hassle! I just read in a consumer review that the main problem might be the of setting an internal thermostat...how and by whom? This is not a product for me!

"Buy Tankless" 2010-01-29
By Fields (Savannah, GA)
I have a 100A service breaker in my house and this thing is fine. Sure my wires might overheat sometimes, but for the amount of time you are going to be heating water, there will be plenty of time for the wire to cool. If the wires heat too much then the breaker trips. Just be sensible about your power usage when heating water. As for failures, some people may have had failures due to not installing an expansion tank that allows the pressure increase created by heating water to be absorbed. Another competitor to tankless is the heat pump assisted water heater. Give me a break, how many times has your air conditioner broken? The heat pump is essentially and air conditioner strapped onto a tank. Tons of moving parts and things that can go wrong. The corporations want you on a determined replacement cycle that they have factored into their business model. Go with TANKLESS anywhere with only one moving part (a small flow sensor that detects you need hot water). I have had this unit for 5 years and it has paid itself off many times more. Do the calculations, yes the heat pump assisted units have high energy factors (2 or more), but give me a break, you are still heating water all of the time during the night when you do not need it and using more electricity. If you are concerned about the electric tankless, then go with gas tankless, either way go TANKLESS. Do the math and you will find out that these heat pump assisted units add complexity and ridiculous amounts of failure points. All my tankless has is two 7,000 W heating elements, two 1/4 gallon tanks, one flowmeter and one logic board coated in epoxy to reduce failure. Gas units are similar, instead having a boiler to heat the water. NO moving parts = RELIABILITY.

"Perfect for small condo/house" 2009-01-30
By Mike R. Wood
This is perfect for a small condo/house. We have a one bath condo that we installed this in. It works great. It does take some getting used to because it seems to me that you have to run the water just a little bit longer to get it hot (compared to a tank water heater), but then no problems. Best to use it with only on fixture, i.e. dont start the washer when someone is in the shower. But you can wash your hands in the sink with hot water while someone is in the shower with out them noticing. If you have more than one bedrooms, get that larger Bosch AE125 unit.

"Installation is difficult" 2008-12-14
By Faith
We bought this product to replace a 20yr old tanked water heater. We have been working for a week now trying to get a hot shower. We live in Texas so our water temp is okay with this unit but our electric is taking alot of re-do to get it to the point of a pleasing shower temp. I recommend that everyone have the unit professionally installed by an electrician/plumber and then stay on top of the problems before the warranty is expired. Good concept just not so great for DIY.

"Don't buy Bosch" 2010-08-23
By Mickey S
Warranty - what warranty??? First they are impossible to get ahold of, I've called 3 times with over 2 hours of wait time, including getting disconnected, just to be told that the problem my technician is saying is the problem (a part under warranty) is not really the problem, it can't be! But regardless I have to have the tech come back out and walk thru the testing with Bosch on the line, at Bosch's convenience of course, to confirm it's a problem. Oh and then the tech will explain how my professionally installed & permitted water heater is installed to ensure that doesn't void the warranty, because of course professionally installed, permitted and finalled and inspected by PG&E doesn't mean anything. Meanwhile, please note, that I am paying for all of this nonsense with my time, stress and money, because technicians are not free. Long story short I'd rather pay for a tech & get any parts thru them and avoid Bosch altogether, I won't ever buy Bosch again!

"Warranty is a sham - don't buy a Bosch product" 2010-06-04
By Stone Wolfsong (Kona, HI)
We have had this unit for three years and it stopped working. Bosch makes it nearly impossible to get the information they need to determine if they will replace the unit (I am supposed to hire an electrician with a "multimeter" to come out while I pay him to be on hold with Bosch for an hour! Then, BOSCH will UPS out parts (another 7-9 days!) So no warranty service really and the folks are Bosch are just plain rude. Three years and we have to purchase a new unit and have it installed. Let's see thats over $250.00 a year - not much of a savings!!!!!

"Great Customer Service" 2010-03-15
By Bill B from PA (PA)
I have had a few different instant water tanks from Bosch in the past at different houses that i have owned. They have always performed well in my home and also my summer home. I recently had a problem with the powerstar AE 125 with a heating module that cracked. I called the 1-800-330-2729 number and spoke to a man from New York who took all my information before transfering me to a tech in Vermont. He was extremely nice and transfered me as soon as he received my information.

Dwinel the customer service rep was extremely pleasant and helpful in every way possible. He took my information down and told me everything that was going to take place once they received my unit back in Vermont. I sent him some information via an email and he called me right back once he received the information(how often does this happen with most companies?). You can't ask for much better customer service than what i received from this company. I was also happy that Dwinel gave me the direct number to his office, so that i wouldn't have to wait and punch buttons. They were very helpful and made me feel at ease througout the whole process. Don't hesitate to purchase this product as they have outstanding customer service.

"Everything I Hoped For" 2010-04-13
By Robert K. Irwin (Hawaii)
This tankless heater was installed about a week ago. It works very well providing as much hot water as we want and as hot as we want it. We are a family of four with one shower/tub. We live in Hawaii so the starting water temperature is no doubt warmer than for many locales. For our needs, this power saving appliance is just about perfect!

"Perfect tankless water heater for townhome" 2010-01-04
By M. Mills (East Coast, USA)
We have a city townhome in North Carolina with five faucets, one shower, a dishwasher, and a washing machine -- all electric, no gas. Groundwater temperatures here range from 55-70°, with the extremes occurring in January/February and July/August, respectively. After researching the many available brands and models of electric tankless water heaters, we decided on the Stiebel Eltron Tempra 24 to replace our old 50-gallon tank. We've have had it for 6 months now with no problems whatsoever. It works great and more than meets our hot water needs for the entire condo. And it has actually saved us between $20-25 on each of our electric bills since it was installed, compared to what the tank heater was costing us.

According to the Stiebel Eltron website, the Tempra 20 model (not the 24) was the most appropriate for the size of our home, since we only have one full bath. But what if we had the laundry, dishwasher, and shower all going at once? This has never actually happened and likely never will; but we opted for the next-higher model, the 24, because it has more power. At 3 gallons per minute, the Tempra 24 can heat water 41° F above the ambient temperature; by contrast, at that flow rate, the Tempra 20 can heat only 33° F above ambient. Additionally, the 24 supposedly can heat two showers at once. Although we can't actually test this (again, just one full bath), we *have* had the washing machine running on hot at the same time the shower (2.5 gpm) was going at its normal setting and had absolutely no temperature problems or water flow shortages.

There's a specific flow rate required for the unit to activate: 0.58 gpm, which is easily achieved on most standard home faucets. Conveniently, the Tempra has an external dial that allows you to set the maximum temperature, which is displayed on a small digital panel. Like any tankless water heater, the faster the water flow, the less the unit is able to heat the water.

The Tempra 24 takes two dedicated 60-amp circuit breakers. We had to have a professional plumber and an electrician install the water heater and ensure that we had sufficient power supply. Our condo was built in the early 1980s, so we actually had to have the power supply upgraded from the nearest transformer to our entire building (!) and then upgrade our individual circuit box. (Apparently no one else in our building has upgraded their major utility appliances in the last 5 years, or the transformer work would have already been done, and we would have only needed to upgrade our circuit box. So, neighbors: you're welcome.) The electrical work actually ended up costing more than the water heater itself, but by that point we were already up to our knees in it (so to speak) and decided to see it out to the end. I'm glad we did, although it was a royal pain to deal with at the time.

Stiebel Eltron's website has a sizing guide as well as an electrical/technical guide for the Tempra models. I can't tell you how indispensable these guides were when we were deciding which unit to purchase. (Per Amazon's reviewing guidelines, I'm unable to link directly to them, but you can find them by going to Stiebel-Eltron-USA[dot]com > Products > Tempra & Tempra Plus > [scroll all the way down to the small "Resources" box] View Sizing Guide/View Technical Data.)

You may be wondering about the difference between the Tempra and the Tempra Plus. Based on the information on Stiebel Eltron's website, it appears that the Tempra Plus is most appropriate for commercial or industrial use, as it requires 2.2 gpm of water flow to activate.

It seems that most people who reviewed this unit on Amazon have had problems with it, and, unfortunately, those who have had positive experiences likely haven't been moved enough to write a review. I don't doubt the other reviewers' testimonials at all, and it's a shame that they received defective units. However, I felt compelled to let people know that there are consumers out there who bought this unit and have never had any problems with it. We couldn't be more pleased with ours.

If you're in the market for an electric tankless water heater, I encourage you to find additional consumer reviews on other websites to get a more accurate assessment of this product. Stiebel Eltron is one of the best tankless brands out there, and based on the research we did, the Tempra 24 was the best fit for us. I would recommend Stiebel Eltron as a brand and the Tempra 24 model without hesitation. Make sure you shop around for the best price (we didn't buy ours from Amazon) and get it from a retailer who offers insured shipping with signed delivery confirmation. Good luck!
** Update, May 21, 2010: Our Tempra 24 tankless is still working great. We've had it for nearly a year now, and it quickly and consistently heats our water and has not given us one single problem. I absolutely stand behind my earlier recommendation. Five stars.

"Beware of "Customer Service" if these go bad." 2009-12-12
By RR
I had a Tempra 36 that went bad and was replaced shortly before the 3yr warranty was over. (Two of the three heating elements went bad resulting in lukewarm water). It was replaced with the 'new and improved' Tempra 29 Plus. Of course, customer is responsible for the labor to remove old unit and install new one... Well after about two weeks of solid performance, the new unit gave out as well. Called Steibel Customer Service once again and was told some of the electronic boards that were shipped out were faulty. New shipment from Germany would be here any day now. It has now been over one month waiting for the replacement. When calling back Steibel Eltron repeats the 'any day now' line, yet cannot give an exact date or reason as to why it is taking so long. Very frustrating to have your family without hot water in the middle of winter. Buyer Beware.

"Malfunctioning after just 1 week of use!" 2009-09-18
By Hector Jose Ochoa
I installed the heater and worked fine to provide hot water to 3 showers simultaneous. But one week later, the "thermal cut-off" started to shout down the heater. I contacted the factory and they say is an electronic problem from production line. They will send me a new one, but the inconvenience and the lost of the cost of uninstalling and re installing makes me write this alert.

"Two Failurres in four years-a terrible product" 2010-09-03
By John L. Friedman (AZ, USA)
In April, 2006 I had an Ariston GL4 installed under our kitchen sink; it worked well, providing hot water to the sink and dishwasher. But it would trip the circuit breaker frequently. It came with a 6 year warranty on the tank.

In March, 2008 rusty water began leaking from the top of the unit. I called BBT North American Corporation in Vermont, the distributer, and they sent another unit by Federal Express. They mentioned nothing about heating rod maintenance. It was installed at a cost of $250.00 by a different plumber, since the original installer went out of business.

In August, 2010 a large leak occurred in the same place in the second one as the first. To save my floor I had it removed and contacted BBT North America again. They requested that I send them a digital photo of the element, which I had to remove myself. I am awaiting their response.

I requested a refund, which they declined. The original installer is nowhere to be found and the installer of the second one says he has no responsibility for a refund.

Under maintenance instruction on page 7 of the manual which came with the second unit (not the first) there is no mention of yearly service to the heating element. On the first page in small print under item #9 is mentioned that failure to service the anode rod at least once a year could cause the tank to leak.

This warning should have been written in red in big letters under the word "WARNING". Neither installer mentioned to me the need of yearly maintenance of the heating rod nor did BBT North America when requesting the first replacement.

I consider this product a defective, hazardous piece of equipment which should be taken off the market. At least the manual should be re-written with a prominent warning of the necessity of carrying out an expensive yearly maintenance of the heating rod, and all installers should be required to tell the customer of the required maintenance of the rod.

Had I known of the required maintenance I would not have bought this product.

"No real warranty - don't buy from Bosch!" 2010-06-04
By Stone Wolfsong (Kona, HI)
Yes, the tankless water heater works well, but the warranty is a sham. Ours is only 3 years old and we have to buy a new one. Called Bosch after our electrician said the electricity was getting to the unit and not to the elements, but Bosch wants additional information that can only be provided by an electrician with a "multimeter" (while iI pay the electrician to be on hold for 40 minutes?!) and then Bosch will UPS parts out....and if that doesn't work they will replace the unit. Hey folks, that's two weeks without hot water! In addition, the folks at Bosch were just plain rude.

"Bosch GL2.5g water heater review" 2010-05-20
By schid (Dallas, TX)
The Bosch GL2.5g water heater is well made and was easy to install. Only have 2 complaints.... The temperature control is located behind 2 panels that you need a screwdriver to remove. Really a dumb design! Also sometimes the water comes out warm other times it is really hot. The thermostat is not very accurate at all. Other than those 2 issues it gets the job done.

"ONSITE WATER HEATER" 2010-05-09
By Roger H. Shelton (Tucson, Arizona USA)
Did a good job. For what I bought it for ...a remote sink... it heats enough water to wash your face and hands when needed. Does the job. Its a little larger dimentions than expected. I had just enough room...another 1/4" or so I wouldn't have been able to fit the space!! Replaced the cord with a different one to reach about another foot of length. Shipping was fast and packing was good no damage. YES I wood recommend.

Everyone in our house seems to wash there hands in the kitchen. Our water heater is about 30 seconds away but now hot water is only 2 seconds away. Didn't even hook the hot water line back up and plenty of hot water at the sink. Great savings. Thanks Amazon for the great product at a great price.
